SHOW REVIEW: Savage Master & Nite live at Reggies Chicago 06/25/25

It makes sense that in the middle of Chicago becoming a literal hellscape, we have a bill at the great Reggies celebrating some pure evil Heavy Metal music. A bill featuring Traditional Metal masters Savage Master, epic Black Metallers Nite and openers Heroine Sentinel and Nightfreak definitely made for a solid and extremely consistent bill.

Opening the night we have Punk Metallers Nighfreak. While the vocal mix was honestly a bit buried, these guys definitely left it all on the stage. Their drummer really stole the show with his D Beat Punk style playing while hair windmilling endlessly. They never let their energy let up and started the night on a quick fun note.

Up next we have epic Metal band Heroine Sentinel. This quartet had more of an American Epic Metal feel and you could tell each individual member really mastered their instruments. Their singer while having an imposing pose on stage, was actually very light hearted and kept the fun vibe of the show up. Definitely check these guys out I think they have a good future ahead of them.

The "night" then got a little darker as we get the Blackened metal band Nite. I had not listened to them a ton before this show but I honestly was blown away from how damn good they were. Extremely tight rhythm playing with oldschool Bathory-like vocals. However, the melodic dual guitar solos were the real highlight for me. Watching both players wielding superstrats playing these melodys so tight that you'd think you would be listening to a recording was incredible. I definitely am a fan now!

Finally, we have the "masters" of ceremonies, Savage Master... I need to stop with the puns. I have been a fan of this band since their second album and am glad see them not only thriving post covid, but honestly in their golden period. Their most recent album "Dark And Dangerous" has become my favorite and it seems like its been doing well for them. This is my first time seeing them that is a non festival appearance but they still ran a tight quick set. The band were decked out in their purple hang man masks with singer Stacey Savage being the focal point dressed as a metalized witch. They blew through one high energy old school metal number after another with a good mix of songs from all of their albums. I also love some new additions to the stage show like the goat man coming out during new tune "Devil Rock". It was like watching an old Hammer film set to kickass music.

Overall, this was a solid show that perfectly shows in 2025 that Heavy Metal truely thrives in the underground. The crowd you could tell was having a blast and every band gave it their all and you could tell this was their passion. Definitely try and catch one of their last dates if you can!
